'Racing is dangerous' says Webber
May 2012

Mark Webber has called on his friends in the GPDA to ban overtaking on the grounds of safety. Webber believes that Formula 1 cars are now too dangerous to drive and the idea that two competitors should be allowed to race each other on the track is damaging the sport.
Despite complaints from fans over the last 20 years that Formula 1 has become boring due to the lack of overtaking and the same handful of drivers winning every race, plus the FIA completely changing the rules to ensure not every race is as boring as the Bahrain Grand Prix, some have put in to question Mark’s grasp on reality.
When asked whether he was just throwing his toys out of the pram because he hasn’t won a race for nearly 2 years, Mark replied “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh”. However, team boss Christian Horner gave his views on his number 2 driver’s comments. “I think it is just a bit of frustration from Mark because he is team mate to Sebastian Vettel who everybody knows is perfect. We have done our best to explain this to Mark and also to clarify that under no circumstances is he ever to beat Seb in a straight fight. Mark justifiably feels put out by this so is probably asking for clarification on the overtaking rule out of frustration.”
Ironically, the next Grand Prix is at Monaco where no one has overtaken there since 1804.
