Silly season not silly enough

November 2012

With the news that Felipe Massa has been confirmed as Fernando Alonso’s bitch for another season being described as dull, Charles Pic’s move from Marussia to Caterham only deemed slightly silly and Nico Hulkenburg’s move from Force India to Sauber being described as mildly pointless by most experts, the FIA has decided that the so called “silly season” has become too boring and announced a raft of mandatory changes that are designed to cut costs while actually increasing costs but making the show more interesting.

All teams will now have to field at least one spanner in their team in order to make the racing more entertaining after it was revealed that 90 percent of viewers are only interested in seeing drivers crash. This new rule has meant Romain Grosjean is now in demand. It is also good news for Kamui Kobayashi who may now been retained at Sauber, although Hulkenberg’s move on Hamilton in Brazil means he might qualify for the role. McLaren’s signing of Sergio Perez means they qualify for the “spanner formula” as do Mercedes with Lewis Hamilton. Pastor Maldonado will probably stay at Williams and be partnered by someone with some talent, although Taki Inoue is rumoured to be in line for a drive to make the ultimate super-crash team. Other old names could be set to make a return with Michael Andretti and Andrea de Cesaris top of the shopping list. Maria de Villota could also be in line for a star drive, although it’s apparently still deemed too soon to make jokes about that.
